Dr. Spiegelman co-founded Plexagen Diagnostics and Spartan Bioscience with Paul Lem. He has extensive lab experience, including research with Peter Oefner and Ronald W. Davis at Stanford University’s Genome Technology Center. In 2000, he was an invited speaker at the Genome Sequencing & Biology Meeting at Cold Spring Harbor. Dr. Spiegelman holds an Honours B.Sc. in Human Biology, with a Minor in Economics from the University of Toronto. He received his Medical Degree from the University of Toronto.
John Lem
John is a co-founder of Spartan. He holds a degree in Computer Engineering from the Engineering Science program at the University of Toronto. John is an analyst at Waterfall Investments, a Toronto-based hedge fund.
Patrick Mallon
Patrick has over 20 years of experience in biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, including President & CEO of Genicon Sciences and Group Director, Marketing at Roche Laboratories. At Roche, Patrick launched 4 of the first PCR-based diagnostic products worldwide and developed the PCR licensing royalty/pricing program.
Robert Roberts, MD, FRCPC, FACC
Dr. Roberts is President and Chief Scientific Officer of the Ottawa Heart Institute. He received his Medical Degree from Dalhousie University and completed his residency in Internal Medicine and Fellowship in Cardiology at the University of Toronto. Past positions include Associate Professor of Medicine at Washington University and Chief of Cardiology at Baylor University.
Baldwin Toye, MD, FRCPC
Dr. Toye is Head of the Division of Microbiology at the Ottawa Hospital. He received his Medical Degree from the University of Toronto, and is certified in the specialties of Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases, and Medical Microbiology. Dr. Toye is an expert in diagnostic microbiology and antibiotic-resistant microorganisms.
Karam Ramotar, Ph.D.
Dr. Ramotar is a Laboratory Scientist in the Division of Microbiology at the Ottawa Hospital. He is also an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa. Dr. Ramotar received his PhD in Medical Microbiology from the University of Manitoba, and completed his Post-Doctoral training at the University of Toronto. His research focus is molecular methods in diagnostic microbiology.
